SWW Wrestling: Girls of the Underground
The Frog and Fiddle, Cheltenham
Friday, July 15, 2022

SWW Wrestling brought the Warriors Division back to the infamous Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham for their second all female show entitled “Girls of the Underground”.

Featuring a championship match and a one night tournament to crown a new number one contender, let’s have a look at what went down.

Alex Windsor vs Skye Smitson - Number One Contender Qualifying Match

It was a debut for both in SWW and the crowd reacted well to them both. This was a hard hitting affair with both wrestlers hitting each other with tremendous strikes throughout.

The action spilled outside the ring and all over the venue, with Alex Windsor even suggesting a dive from the bannister.

At one point Windsor disappeared, only to return with a massive Ram mascot head (no idea how this came to be!!!). She put this on and delivered a huge running ram headbutt for a near fall.

It wasn’t to be for her though as Skye Smitson went through to the final after hitting Windsor with her Cross Rhodes finish to get the victory.

Chantal Jordan vs Charlie Morgan - Number One Contender Qualifying Match

Chantal is a regular here in SWW and a huge fans favourite, Charlie was another making her SWW debut and, despite not being a regular in this part of the world, she got a warm reception.

Like the last match this went all over the place, even outside of the venue into the pub courtyard amongst all the surprised pub goers, where a shopping trolley was used like a battering ram by both combatants - find this clip via @SpinebusterM on Twitter.

Chantal defeated Charlie Morgan here to advance to the final facing Skye Smitson later on.

Ivy & Juno Jackson vs Aurora & Lucia Lee

Prior to the match Ivy took to the microphone to address the crowd. She said that she’s not always been good but she’s trying hard to be a nicer person and introduced everyone to her tag partner, newcomer Juno Jaxon.

Next came the team of Aurora and Lucia Lee to a chorus of boos, these two were at the previous Warriors show back in May - you can see all the previous matches of this show on the SWW YouTube channel.

The more experienced Ivy was in action for the majority of the match as Aurora and Lucia Lee took turns in beating Ivy down.

The much taller Juno Jaxon was impatiently waiting for a chance and her turn eventually came as she came in with an impressive flurry of offence.

Aurora and Lucia used their experience to their advantage and Juno was pinned to give them the victory. After the match, Ivy’s promise to try and be a nicer person failed miserably as she viciously attacked Juno with her trademark baseball bat as she blamed her for causing their team to be defeated.

Skye Smitson vs Chantal Jordan - Number One Contender’s Match

This match was straight after the interval, which was welcomed by everyone in attendance as the venue was an absolute sweatbox!

I had heard a little whisper that this was their first ever meeting, hopefully someone will be able to confirm this. As per the other tournament matches, this ended up with some brawling amongst the fans, with Chantal hitting some of her trademark head kicks.

It was Skye Smitson who ended up getting her hand raised and becoming number one contender as she defeated her younger opponent with her Cross Rhodes finish again.

It’s crazy how Chantal Jordan is still only 18 years old, no doubt she will be a massive star in the UK and maybe even further.

I was really impressed with Skye Smitson tonight, it’s the first time I’ve ever seen her and she just looks and acts a real nasty piece of business.

She will be a real threat to the SWW Warriors champion whenever she gets to have her championship match.

LA Taylor (C) vs Aluna Blue - SWW Warriors Championship match

LA Taylor has been unstoppable since joining the SWW roster, she has dominated everyone she has faced and is the deserved Warriors champion.

She faced arguably her toughest opponent to date in Aluna Blue who is from the local area and had a massive cheer when she came through the curtain, the crowd were definitely on Aluna’s side and were desperate to see an upset.

Aluna nearly stunned Taylor within seconds with a surprise pin attempt for a 2.5 count which nearly made the crowd explode.

These two traded chops with each one sounding worse than the one before with Aluna also impressing with a lovely satellite DDT for a near fall.

LA Taylor then took control and showed everyone why she is the most dominant female in SWW. They went back and forth after in what I felt was the match of the night with a definite main event feel.

LA Taylor ultimately defeated the worthy contender with a Sky High Powerbomb for the three count. After the match the new number one contender Skye Smitson ran in and attacked the champion and fallen challenger to try and gain the mental advantage.

LA Taylor and Aluna Blue then joined forces to see Smitson off and then showed respect to each other to end the show. Hopefully Aluna will become a regular fixture at these shows as she was really impressive.

I thought this was a great show, it was an easy watch in a cool, (certainly not cool temperature!) gritty venue. It gives off a real underground vibe.

The crowd were great too and were into everything they did. It’s nice to see all womens shows in this part of the country and hopefully SWW can make a real success of them here.

I saw the action being filmed and I believe that these matches will be available again on the YouTube channel at some point so I highly recommend checking these out when they drop.

Thank you for reading.
