Reviewer Daniel Ellis (@Mr Ellis_94)

No Mercy Wrestling’ s second event at Team Rees Gym after launching last year; after watching the past two ‘Rise of the Cobras’ shows, the build-up to this event was second to none.

The stacked match card was looking to be one that should not be missed, featuring the likes of Mike Bird, Danny Owens and Caerphilly’s very own Oliver Sudden.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Chris Ridgeway could not attend; however, his replacement did not fall short of giving a fantastic show and match-up.

Lucia Lee vs KM Lane

Credit: No Mercy Wrestling

This match started with someone booing Lucia Lee and distracting her; she kept leaving the ring as she was ‘not ready’, after many tie-ups that were won by KM Lane.

Lucia attempted many pinfalls during the match however kept falling short. KM’s comeback featured a lionsault off the middle rope and he put on a very good showing indeed, showcasing how athletic he really is as he took it to the top rope.

However, as KM landed on his feet he pushed Lucia Lee into the corner, blocking the ref at the same time. Unfortunately, Lucia Lee hit a low blow with her leg and finished with a running knee off the ropes. Lucia Lee is the winner of this match.

This was an excellent match to get the crowd going with plenty of fan interaction spots.

Devil’s Rejects (MJ Grayson & Wesker) vs Act Two (Jack Knudsen & Benjamin Harland) vs RC Chaos & Scott Christie

This match was confusing and challenging to keep track of; however, it did not disappoint and featured many tests of strength throughout.

The match started with MJ Grayson and Jack Knudsen. MJ Grayson was decimating straight off the bat. The Devil’s Rejects were not there to mess about but to cause fear and pain.

Everyone had a go of trying to knock down Wesker; however, he showed that he is an immovable force. Jack had power-slammed every one of his competitors prior to coming up against him.

The match featured many tags to the point that even the referee could not keep up to speed with who the legal men were, there were some brilliant dives in the ring and outside of the ring from Act Two.

After a fierce battle back and forth between all three teams, MJ Grayson fell into the hands of this contest’s winners, Act Two.

Mike Bird vs Oliver Sudden

After 15 years, Mike Bird returns to Caerphilly; the man who stepped forward to answer his open challenge was none other than Caerphilly’s home town hero Oliver Sudden; teacher vs student, Bird was Sudden’s original trainer back in Dragon Pro.

This match was heavily dominated by Bird with lots of shoulder takedowns and mat wrestling. Sudden gives Bird his powerful shoulder takedowns, scoop slam and a big splash to a count of two.

Birdy hits several submission moves to wear out Sudden; however, they were not enough. Sudden came back with punches and an Irish whip followed by a flapjack, followed by a two count.

This was a very close match-up, and everything is being left in the ring. Sudden goes for the Superplex from the top rope; Birdy pushes him down to the mat, followed by a jumping knee to the head, and then three more while standing.

Birdy hits a submission move forcing Sudden to tap out in his hometown (He is still our winner thought, a great display from him).

Jay Joshua vs Billy Haze

This match was meant to be Jay Joshua vs Chris Ridgeway, however Billy Haze showed that he was ready to fill in the gap.

I did not realise that this match was a partner vs partner match. It surely did not disappoint. And there was a sign of respect to start the match.

This match was a hard-hitting match with lots of grapples. During the match, Billy got thrown into the ring post from the outside face first, as well as thrown sideways into the turnbuckle from the inside of the ring, which left a horrendous mark on his back.

However, Billy wanted more and more. Joshua was punishing Billy with sSuplexes and kicks to the chest. Billy attempts a frog splash from the top rope, but Joshua reverses it into a submission move forcing Billy to tap out.

This was a phenomenal contest between two great athletes; words can not describe the match enough.

Bevan vs Kelly Sixx vs Big T

Credit: No Mercy Wrestling

This match was looking to be a belter of a fight. Big T arrives and makes a little girl in the audience cry, then the fan favourite Bevan enters the ring.

Sixx and Bevan both go towards the colossal Big T; he throws Bevan and Sixx out of the ring as a reversal. Both of the men get back into the ring; Bevan goes for a hurricanrana from the top rope against Big T; however, another reversal from the big man and Bevan back out of the ring.

A fight between Sixx and Big T starts; Bevan gets back into the ring and teams up with Sixx to give Big T a double dropkick that takes Big T out of the ring.

Sixx and Bevan ram Big T against the sports hall wall and then re-enter the ring for a chest slapping contest. A lot of back and for attacks took place in this bout. Bevan goes for the Gore against Big T.

The music hits, and Darling Darcey Dekill enters, back out for another distraction against Bevan; we all thought that this rivalry had stopped; however, this was not the case.

Big T attacks Bevan and eliminates him from this match. It’s a staredown between Big T and Sixx now. In a battle of slaps and reversal, Big T goes for the two-handed chokeslam, pin attempts - kick outs by Sixx.

Sixx fights back, picks up the giant Big T and hits him with a Samoan Drop and Kelly Sixx is your shock winner.

Gauntlet Match for the No Mercy Combat Legacy Championship; Adam Carter vs James Ellis vs Jimmy Taylor vs Big Guns Joe vs Danny Jones

Credit: No Mercy Wrestling

This was a fantastic match with lots of upsets. Adam Carter absolutely dominated and shows that he is a force to be reckoned with.

With the inaugural No Mercy Combat Legacy Championship belt on the line, everyone gave it their all.

The first two entrants for this match were Adam Carter and Jimmy Taylor; the crowd favourite was Jimmy, with chants of ‘Jimmy is our champion’ circling the arena,

The crowd were dishing abuse towards Adam, calling him a ‘plank’. This abuse had followed him from his semi-final bout in the Iron Cobra tournament against Shane Hooker.

Adam was a beast in the ring and was dominating against Jimmy Taylor, showing what he is made of; Jimmy got Adam outside of the ring to gain momentum,

However, it wasn’t enough; Jimmy tried to go for a top rope move, gets reversed into a Powerbomb from Adam for the pin and that was the end for Jimmy.

Next Entrant; Big Guns Joe

For a smaller guy height wise, Joe makes sure that everyone knows that he does have a license for those guns.

He goes straight after Adam, showing the crowd that he is here to win; Joe reminds me of Ilja Dragunov.

After constant attacks against Adam, attempted Powerbombs, Suplexes and submission moves, Joe fell short as he, like Jimmy got hit by the powerbomb from Adam and he has eliminated another contender.

Next Entrant; Danny Jones

Danny goes straight for Adam, not giving him a moment to breathe. After Clotheslines, running knees and Suplexes, Adam was finally put down for the count and just not quite good enough to continue to the final.

Next Entrant; James Ellis

We’re down to the final two of the Combat Legacy Championship, Danny Jones vs ‘The Brilliance’ James Ellis.

Ellis walks down to the ring, staring down at Danny, the crowd are going wild for this fierce battle. However, little does Danny know Adam is standing behind him, ready to hit him with one of his destructive sit-out Powerbombs.

Danny is left lying on the mat; James comes in and tears Danny apart with fast-paced attacks. Danny fights back, pin attempt is made, but James’ foot is on the rope.

Danny goes for a rear chokehold; James bites his hand and pins Danny with a dirty pin. James Ellis is the Inaugural Combat Legacy champion.

Kenny Mantra vs Shane Hooker - Iron Cobra Tournament Final

Credit: No Mercy Wrestling

This was the match everyone was waiting for, the final of the first ever Iron Cobra Tournament and we were not left disappointed.

Having followed the tournament right through, I for one was excited to see what this final would bring, looking to it being somewhat similar to that of Eddie Gurrero vs Rey Mysterio!

Both these contenders are certainly ones to watch out for.

Upon Shane’s entrance the crowd, filled with so many of his friends and family, were on their feet and the atmosphere was electric.

After both showing remarkable respect for one another they meet in the middle of the ring for a handshake, and the bell rings.

Mantra kicks off this match with a roll-up, both quickly showing off their athleticism with flips, rolls and summersaults.

Throughout the first half of the match, Mantra was dominating Hooker with multiple submissions and grapples.

Hooker eventually made a comeback with a Leg-Drop Bulldog followed by a Hurricarana from the top rope taking Mantra outside of the ring.

Hooker then climbs to the top rope and hits a Moonsault to a standing Mantra on the outside of the ring. After both getting back into the ring,

Mantra hits with a Scoopslam and attempts a pinfall but fails with a count of two. A fierce battle for the sword continues with both contenders clearly leaving everything they physically could inside the ring.

Shane’s clearly winning over the crowd with chants of ‘let’s go, Shane’ being heard around the room.

The match progresses with a lot of back and forth between the pair and many failed pin attempts by the both of them.

Shane goes for a 450 splash, lands on his feet and rolls. Little does he know Mantra is ready to give Hooker a running kick similar to the Claymore.

A back-and-for battle continues to the top of the turnbuckle; Hooker gets Mantra onto the mat and hits him with not just the 450 splash but a 630 splash!

The crowd goes wild. 1, 2,3 Hooker is the first EVER Iron cobra champion.

Chants of ‘this is awesome’ and ‘you deserve it’ followed by screams and tears of happiness from the crowd fill the venue.

The two wrestlers hug it out, and Mantra leaves the ring to allow Hooker to soak up the atmosphere. The owner of No Mercy, Chris Bevan, enters the ring, sword in hand and drops to his knees to present Shane Hooker with his Iron Cobra sword.

It will be exciting to see how far these two young men go; they both possess so much athleticism, resilience and determination. I can not wait to see what the future holds for them.

What an absolute banger of a show; I would not expect anything less from the team at No Mercy; if you have never seen any of their shows, you are surely missing out.
