Pro Wrestling EVE: Women Behaving Badly
The 229, London

So my night started with a trip to Baker Street and seeing some bloke getting arrested at the front of the Station. I met up with my mate Dave as we couldn't visit any pubs due to how rammed it was, so instead we headed to the KFC for some food - which on this night was A Trilogy Box Meal with a few extras and we got table service by a member of staff who sounded like Boxing Legend Frank Bruno,
After a small trip to Tesco, we headed into the venue and once it got closer to bell time, they had a fairly packed house which is good to see compared to their last 229 Show.
We kicked off with Darcy Stone as the host for the evening, who was standing in for Lolo Brown (she only found out that afternoon when we me and her were talking during the Interval). We were also given the news that Emersyn Jayne was out with Injury so the Iron Women Match was off.
Live Audience Only Match: Jetta vs Nina Samuels vs Millie McKenzie - Three-Way Dance
With Emersyn off the show, the EVE Champion was added to the dark match which became a Three-Way Dance which meant eliminations were in order as opposed to a Triple Threat Match. An the Entrances we had Jetta and Millie knick Nina’s coat and wear it to the Ring.
This was a good opening match for the crowd, three personalities that people could cheer and boo, did the job in that regard. Nina eliminated Millie first with a roll-up and Jetta beat her with the Last Chancery soon after, to get the submission win. Jetta cut a promo after this to say that she and Emersyn will have their Iron Woman Match on the next 229 Show on April 23rd.
Lizzy Evo vs Alex Windsor
This was one of my most anticipated matches going into the show. I've been a massive Alex Windsor fan since her return to BritWres last August and have only seen Lizzy twice before in small roles, so this was the first time that I got to see properly after much buzz up and down the country.
To describe this match in two words: Fucking Outstanding. This match blew me away, the exchanges between the both in the more technical senses were smooth and fluid, the aggression was hard hitting and believable, plus adding in some of the big moves like Windsor’s Coast to Coast worked here.
A truly unbelievable match that I’d go out of your way to see. We had Lizzy win this match with the Van Stryke Knee to get a big win in her EVE debut.
Laura Di Matteo vs The AVA - Non-Title Match
We had Laura coming off a big victory in her last EVE appearance as she became the new International Champion and Ava off the back of a big loss to Debbie Keitel.
We had Ava having a moan on the mic before this about not having a title match, but said that she’ll receive a title match when she beats Laura.
This was a good match, it had a hard act to follow after Evo/Windsor but they succeeded here. It was clear that these two work well together as it was a nice and tidy match and the thing that stood out the most was Ava reaching out of her comfort zone as a wrestler, which is normally the criticism i've had of her.
But here, once she veered out of that the match picked up. We did have Laura win this though via submission and another loss in the books for Ava.
Charlie Morgan vs Hyan - She-1 Qualifying Match
These two started off quite awkwardly it's fair to say, with a Charlie dive not going particularly well and a move involving Charlie climbing Hyan’s shoulders also falling short.
But, once they put that behind them and more focused on the grounded work, I felt the match picked up and found it’s stride.
I’ve not been massively impressed with Hyan as a heel but this match worked really well for her, as she had the perfect babyface opponent to work against. Just little things she did like standing on Charlie’s wrists whilst having her in a chin lock were fantastic.
In the end though, Charlie Morgan secured her place in the SHE-1 as she beat Hyan with the Aces Over DDT.
After this, we had our interval and included the official announcement that SHE-1 would take place at 229 over June 18th and 19th featuring VENNY of DDT Pro fame.
Rhio vs Charli Evans - She-1 Qualifying Match
Could Charli make it two for two for Charli(e)’s in this year’s SHE-1? We had a big Australian section who was in full support of Charli here, meanwhile I was firmly behind Rhio, who I’m so glad is getting the opportunities she deserves.
This match was focused around Rhio destroying Charli’s leg to soften her up for submission, but Charli could fight fire with fire as she also went after Rhio’s leg so the pair were on equal footing (literally).
Unfortunately for Charli though, this didn’t stop the North West Strong style of Rhio as she locked in an elevated Ankle Lock for the submission win - punching her ticket to the SHE-1 Series.
Clementine vs Max the Impaler
This match came about via social media when Clem spoke very openly and honestly about her current career and what she wanted going forward. Pair this with a really good promo online and Clementine felt like an enormous babyface here, plus her bubbly personality clashed really well with Max’s Mad Max look and feel about them.
We had Max beat down Clementine for most of this match but Clem would not quit that easily, this is where the match thrived for me. Clem is at her best when she’s the underdog against a tougher opponent and it worked really well here - resulting in one of the best matches of the night.
On Max as well, looking at them going in, I was worried that it was going to be another naff supernatural gimmick but I was proven wrong as beyond the aesthetic of the gear, they are a very good heavyweight style wrestler and looked massive next to Clementine.
Unfortunately, Clementine could not hang in any longer and eventually fell to Max’s Big Ending finisher to get the win for Max as they took Clem’s orange hair tie as a souvenir of the victory.
The Hex (Allysin Kay & Marti Belle) vs The Uprising (Rhia O’Reilly & Skye Smitson) - Dual Title Match, NWA Tag Titles vs EVE Tag Titles
This was the big match for the show and was set up at the last show when Hex challenged Uprising for their tag team championships and put their titles on the line to make things interesting.
Many fan songs for the Hex here which they seemed to enjoy, the match started off with some technical exchanges between AK and Smiston which ended when AK gave the big Monty Brown like POUNCE! (Period) to Smiston which knocked her out of the ring.
Marti and Rhia in afterwards and Uprising were on the backfoot but soon found their way back into the match after some classic cheating; whilst Marti was getting beaten down, we had AK being held back by the ref whilst Uprising put the beating on more.
But Marti fought back and we had AK back in like a house on fire, before the action broke down between all four. In the end AK and Marti hit a big double team finisher to win the EVE Tag Team Titles in a shock victory.
This was a really good main event with all four working hard here to make this feel like a proper main even. AK particularly impressed me here in seeing her live for the first time.
Uprising attacked Hex after with the EVE belts and Skye got on the mic to challenge them to the rematch for the next night at Signature Brew, whilst AK dropped the C-Bomb on the Uprising to end the show.
Overall, this was a really good show with a lot of good matches and forward momentum for EVE as a promotion going into their 229 shows in April and June with Signature Brew in between.
Evo/Windsor blew me away, Clem/Max was a really good character story driven match and It was great to see Hex for the first time live.
