Hello everyone, my name is Iwan Mackenzie. I’m stepping in on this occasion to cover Ignite Pro Wrestling’s long awaited debut show “New Dawn”.

Before we get started, quick introduction to me, my name is Iwan Mackenzie, I’ve been a wrestling fan for well over fifteen years and have been attending live independent shows for the last nine years. I’ve visited shows up and down the country, have any been from Wembley Arena to Car Parks for shows.

So met up with everyone just after 12:00 at St Pancras, got the 12:38 train to Elstree & Borehamwood. Got in just after 13:00 and went to the German Doner Kebab place by the venue. Thankfully with Borehamwood, everything is pretty central so getting around the high Street is really easy.

Got the German Doner Boss Box here with Curry Frites, Cheese Bites and a Bottle of Coke for £11.99. Lovely stuff and would highly recommend GDK if you ever want something different from McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC etc. Very fresh food and lean meats.

We then headed to the pub across the road called the Wishing Well, a little pub that advertised Sky Sports and was showing the Cricket and Football. A proper old man pub that you don’t often see nowadays as most places are owned by a bigger company.

This place had a great selection of Non-Alcoholic drinks that for a non-drinker like myself was a dream. Had an Old Mout Berries and Cherries Cider, 0.0% and then a Pepsi Max before we headed to the Venue: 96 Shenley Road.

It’s a community centre with a good theatre set up, meaning that music and lighting are sorted, only compliant I have is it can get a bit hot inside the venue itself. The toilets were clean, the cafe/bar was very well run, had a Hot Chocolate costing £2.20;

Show started on time at 15:30, which is refreshing for a BritWres promotion.

Sunset Skip was our Ring Announcer for the day, I thought he did a great job and brought a lot of personality to the role of host, helped set the tone.

‘Just’ Joe Lando vs Corey McRae

Originally this was supposed to be Forest Haze vs Charles Crowley but Haze was out as he had to Self-Isolate and Crowley had scheduling conflicts.

I thought this was Really good opener to get the crowd into the show, great high flying from Lando that contrasted to Corey’s Technical and Hard-Hitting Ability; I’m a big fan of high energy sprints, so this was a really refreshing change of pace for shows.

We had Corey win this with Armbar submission hold, that I feel the Ref called this in a very odd way but didn’t take away from what was a really good match.

Clementine vs Darcy Stone

Darcy came out as a babyface here with full dancing, but attacked Clementine before the bell. Good match here, Darcy played the baddie and had a lot of hilarious antics by hiding in the curtains and giving it to the crowd.

A lot of good work on the leg by Darcy to Clementine that worked as Clementine looked like a great goodie in peril. Clementine won this with the Pedigree and we all gave Darcy, the “Ahhhh” treatment.

‘Top Gun’ Tommy Kyle vs CJ Carter

We gave Tommy a chant of “He’s Got Two First Names, Tommy Kyle, He’s Got Two First Names” the Ref was in laughter.

Very good match, both impressed here, CJ Carter looked in tremendous shape here after a long period off, he was over here with the crowd, one of the loudest times they got all afternoon.

First time seeing Tommy who looked really good here, A lot of good work on the arm that was really well sold by Carter in his comebacks. CJ won this with the Diving Lung blower from the second rope.

Interval time, as I Had an In-Ring picture with Gene Munny, Warren Banks, Clementine & CJ Carter for five pounds, plus a group picture with my mates as well, really good value and glad to get an in-ring picture again. Plus, many talks with many wrestlers at the Merch Area and getting my Raffle Ticket.

Nino Bryant vs Taylor James

Back from the break, we had a match in the Breakout Division we’re the winner would advance to a final to win the Battle bowl Trophy, I don’t see anyone teaming up with Sting in the first round…

We had local hero Nino Bryant vs Taylor James; This was a Really good story driven match with Taylor beating down the hometown hero Nino and at one point hitting a big slam on the ramp to isolate Nino.

We had lots of great athletic moves from Nino including a beautiful Pele Kick. Nino won this via pinfall to advance to the next stage; Taylor showed Nino respect but then attacked him after the match, until CJ Carter made the save and run James off, presumably that sets up something for the next show.

Truman Roswell vs Tim Lee

I’ve not seen Truman before but his character is a conspiracy theorist who believes the Earth is flat, a gimmick that was meant to be booed but didn’t feel like it really worked for this audience or me either.

I find Tim Lee very entertaining and his comedy timing is great, somebody that I’ve missed seeing live so I was happy to see him here; unfortunately, this match was my least favourite of the show as it never connected to the crowd for me. We had Truman win via Chokehold, the referee isn’t very good at calling for submissions.

We then had a Raffle with the Prizes being A signed poster, a bottle of bubbly, CJ Carter kid t-shirt and two tickets to the next show. I lost, boo!

Dexter vs Warren Banks vs Gene Munny

Credit: Ignite Pro Wrestling

Dexter’s nickname is the “Dexcutioner”, something we all gave him crap for and even Gene joined in and said that his pun nickname would be the “Gene-is”, credit to Sunset Skip for creating that. A line from my mate Dave as Dexter got out the ring, “He’s making a Dexit!” We were all pissing ourselves laughing.

A good main event with a lot of action, all three put a lot of effort in, unfortunately I felt the crowd was pretty burnt out by this point and wasn’t as hyped as the rest of the card, I will say that this did lean too much into the Three-Way Clichés that I’m not a fan of at all, where one guy is always going out to allow the other two to wrestle. I prefer when they have a lot of action between all three.

We had Warren win this by Spear on Dexter to send the crowd home happy.

Overall, a really good show and a great first impression from Ignite Pro Wrestling as they build a new brand. Plenty of fun, crowd was into it which I felt was missing from Borehamwood’s previous promotion, Pro Wrestling CLASH. I’d recommend Lando/McRae and Bryant/James as matches to check out online.

Ignite Pro’s next show is on March 6 th 2022 back at 96 Shenley Road, Tickets are available now, and their shows will be available on Powered4 TV.
