So this was an unexpected review for me as, until Tuesday, I wasn’t even planning on attending this show, but I entered a competition to win free tickets for this show and actually won for once. So, after finishing early from work on Friday, me and my brother Leighton met with our mates Dave, Paul and Tammy to jump in the car down to Bedford Town F.C. - with much discussion about BritWres, RevPro at York Hall and Jamie Hayter being back at EVE.
We arrived to the venue about 20 minutes beforehand, the venue itself is at Bedford Town Football Club, home of the Southern League Division One Central team, but the wrestling was taking place inside The Eagles Bar. It’s a very nice venue which was pretty packed for this Friday night and I do have to compliment the bar for very quick and friendly service, plus drinks were very cheap with a pint of Pepsi coming in at £4.20, bargain.
The show started about ten minutes late, with Chris Pugh as our MC for the night and this show was 18+ plus so be wary of the content you’re about to read from this point forward.
Kai Payne vs Adonis Payne - Loser Must Change Their Name
This is the kind of silly wrestling gimmick I like, something that is just so plainly funny as we had the two Payne’s fighting for their last name with the loser’s name being stricken from the record books. If those two are writing it they could be The Authors of Payne…
We had Kai out to Oasis’ “Supersonic” and the crowd were really behind him through the match as he is one of the top Babyfaces in this promotion.
This was a pretty good opener, both worked well here and got the crowd into it. Kai has improved a lot since I was seeing him in BEW and CLASH years ago and Adonis looked pretty well himself here, his gear did look a bit baggy though, so Baggy that Suggs and Crew might sing a song about him, that would be Madness…
Kai wins this match via European Clutch for the Pin and as a result Adonis has lost his Payne and is now Adonis Who.
Memes vs Kent Nelson
Memes was out here with his custom music, announcing him weighing in at 3,005 followers, Pre-Match promo by Memes who said “This crowd’s language is fucking Appalling!” which got a childish laugh from me.
Both men are in the Coburn Cup final at the anniversary show so this was a preview of it, as Memes asked Kent to shake the winner’s hand, he instead got slapped across the face.
This was a decent enough match, nothing blew me away but was entertaining for what it was. Memes was very good as the bad guy in this match, very easy to boo and get behind Kent. Memes wins this match after a Pedigree off the ropes.
Act Two (Jack Knudsen & Benjamin Harland) vs Kyle Kingsley & Truman Roswell
Going into this match, Roswell and Kingsley are set to face off against each other at the anniversary show for both Kingsley’s Ultimate Sacrifice Championship and Roswell’s Loserweight Championship with them being unwilling tag team partners in Wrestling Cliches 101.
They nearly combusted early on but GM Chase Williams told them to get along or the match would be off so they got on even if the tag were more like chops across the chest.
This was my least favourite match of the show, unfortunately there was a lot of pet peeves of mine that I don’t like in wrestling; the reluctant tag partners, the smaller guy taking down the bigger guy with shoulder blocks and one sequence between Kingsely and Knudsen where they did the duelling exchanges and looked like equals, which I really did not like.
I do prefer when wrestlers of a certain size just stick to what suits them and their styles clash. I also found the dynamic and comedy off as well.
Will say though that Act Two are good, there’s potential from both of them and hopefully they keep at it and really develop into a Great Tag Team, We had Act Two win this after Truman abandoned Kingsley leaving him prone to Act Two hitting MCMG’s old Finisher for the Pin; Truman attacked Kingsley afterwards but Act Two ran him off and Kingsley promised to break him at the Anniversary show.
CJ Carter vs Hustle Malone - Movie Mayhem Match
Rules to this were No Disqualification but only movie props were allowed. Hustle came out dressed like Darth Maul with Leighton giving the chant of the night of “You Darth Bastard!”
This match kicked off with a lightsaber duel between the two, which Carter was able to win. He then retrieved some weapons that would make him a member of the Avengers. He pulled out Captain America’s Shield and Thor’s Hammer which were both used to great effect on Hustlem but Hustle also used the weapons against Carter before retrieving a chair - I’m not sure what film that’s from.
Hustle put on some Hulk Green Fist Gloves and started throwing Haymakers at Carter, but because they’re made of foam they didn’t work so Carter enacted another famous Hulk move as he made a big comeback on Hustle finishing it off with a Big Boot and Leg Drop to chants of ‘no holds barred’.
Carter then put on some sunglasses and flashed a light in Hustle’s eyes reenacting the Neuralyzer from Men in Black and we all sung the famous Will Smith song, with Carter doing the whole dance routine.
Carter persuaded Hustle that Nick Cooper, the ref, was his opponent as Hustle and Nick had a sequence with Nick nearly getting the win with a Roll-Up.
Carter put on a ref shirt during this to keep up the lie, Hustle came to his senses and went back to fighting Carter as they started to kick each other down low leading to Nick also getting clocked in the bollocks leading to “Nick’s dick” chants.
Hustle pulled out a massive bit of wood that read: “Morbius was OK”, as he attempted to put Carter through but it was actually Carter who gave Hustle the Death Valley Driver through the wood to get the win.
This was my favourite match of the show, a ton of fun to watch, good entertaining brawl and entirely committed to the gimmick whole heartedly.
Los Palominos (Frankie Vegas & Ricky Calvert) w/ Danny Mayhem vs The Reckless Old Youth (Tim Lee & Jack Cave) - Tornado Tag Team Match
You know when I said earlier that this show was 18+, this match defined it and I’m going to have to try and recap it…
Both Calvert and Vegas pulled out aubergines here from their pants, with Cave and Lee taking the show name too literally and retrieving a purple dildo that Cave claimed he got off Danny Mayhem’s Mum.
There was a lot of brawling to begin this match, Cave opened up Calvert to be chopped by the crowd with one guy stepping up and giving a HUGE chop to the chest which he did again a following two times after being asked by Cave, it was like WALTER in disguise.
Palominos took over after this with Danny isolating Tim on the outside whilst Calvert and Vegas took the numbers game on Cave until Lee was able to Mule Kick Danny in the bollocks to get the opportunity to get back in the ring.
It was much more even from this point onwards until Palominos overwhelmed Cave in the corner using the Aubergine and Dildo.
Tim came back in here and had a monologue about how “they’ve fucked my boy”, before picking up Cave and using him Weekend at Bernie’s style to fight off Calvert and Vegas.
Lee fought he’d be able to use a trick as well as he got his thumb ready to put up Vegas’ arse, but once in, Vegas actually liked it and no word of a lie actually seduced Tim Lee until it was a ruse for Calvert to Roll-Up and get the win for the team.
Mayhem assaulted The R-O-Y afterwards with the dildo until Jack grabbed it and hit him, R-O-Y then prayed towards the dildo.
Now this is going to be hard to give thoughts on, all I can really say is that it was a mess of a match but I was never bored and I am appalled (in a good way) by the creativity from all five involved in this match for sure.
David Grant vs Alexander Hyde
This was originally set to be Hyde vs Warren Banks but Grant stepped in, not sure why the change, Banks was at the event.
This match had a bit of a struggle as the crowd were reeling from that last match and feeling the burnout, but I do think the big lads type spots woke people up and gained interest in this match.
This was a very entertaining match with legit two huge blokes and some of the aggression and struggle on the Slams and Suplex were really good here.
I will say though that this match wasn’t very clean at all, and at some points, I felt some of the slams and strikes were pretty tame in retrospect to what we also had in the match, but both looked good for the most part here. Grant wins this via BossMan Slam (it didn’t look very good if I’m being honest).
Big Dangerous Scary Mammals (Charles Crowley & Clementine) vs The 87 (Roy Johnson & Alexander Roth) - Safe Word Match
This was a first time ever in wrestling, with it soon being revealed that it was a version of an I Quit Match. B.D.S.M had their usual over the top entrance and came out with the Resurgence Tag Team Championships which was cool to see.
I have to say something else that caught my eye on the entrances and that’s how great-a-shape, Johnson is in - absolutely incredible work by him.
Crowley cut a pre-match promo going over the rules and saying that 87’s safe word will be “give Roy carbs”. Roy took the mic and said that B.D.S.M were nothing else other than perverts, as B.D.S.M tried to disprove this by pulling out a “necklace (ballgag)” and a “hair brush' (whip)' as Roy decided that their safe word would be “I’m a horny pervert”. It was also decided that Nick Cooper would have “Peggy Mitchell” as his Safe Word.
The Mammals were firmly in control to start this match with their usual double team offence, as Crowley instructed Clementine to get the carbs as Clementine retrieved five bags of crisps from the bar with several crisp chants coming out from us lot.
The 87 came back and controlled a large portion of this match with Crowley taking the heat from Johnson and Roth. Johnson decided to grab the “hair brush'' and whipped Crowley with it, Crowley nearly gave in but the “necklace” was used to prevent Crowley from talking so he didn’t have to utter those selected words.
Johnson and Roth took more shots of the “hair brush” onto Crowley but it appeared as if Crowley was starting to enjoy the pain and fought back, eventually tagging in the Zesty One as she went on a run, even if she eventually got pounced for her troubles by Johnson.
At one point all four were in submissions, with Crowley initially locking in a Single Leg Crab and shouting “now we’re playing!”. Nick was caught in the crossfires of this submission as he got the dreaded Nipple Cripple as he bellowed his safe word of “PEGGY MITCHELL!” and was let go off.
The finish came when two bags of sour cream and chilli crisps were busted open with Johnson wanting to succumb to the carbs in front of him. Roth stopped him as he didn’t want his tag partner ruining his new look.
Crowley took the chance to lock in a No Escape in front of the crisps as Roy shouted “GIVE ROY CARBS!” for B.D.S.M to get the win, they shook 87’s Hands afterwards.
This was a really fun main event with four solid talents being able to carry the gimmick to its fullest potential and a great way to end the show.
Overall as a show this was a ton of fun, I’m not normally a fan of 18+ shows as they normally go into the biggest cliches possible with booze and deathmatches but this felt different, almost equivalent to the early days of Tuesday Night Graps.
I had a really fun night out overall, Sacrifice isn't a promotion I get to visit too often but has been good when I have seen it and I would recommend people check out this promotion.
