Making The Ultimate BritWres Couples Tag Tournament

BRITWRES Twitter has been all abuzz in the last few days with some stars and fans pitching around the idea of a couples tag team tournament - deciding once and for all who is the ultimate power couple on the scene.

So, here at Grapple Theory we’ve taken it upon ourselves to pick the teams taking part in the tournament.

If you like this list let us know and we’ll even do a bracket draw and decide the full winners!

So first of all let’s take a look at our teams:

Lucia Lee and Wesker

Lee is one of the stars who has been batting around the idea of this couples tournament, so it’s obvious we had to include her and partner Wesker.

The pair would be a powerhouse force in the competition with a hard hitting style that would overpower plenty of the other wrestlers.

Ivy and Brady Phillips

One half of the Pretty Little Killers and her significant other would be another team with an absolutely ruthless streak. They’ve paired together before and have looked strong when doing so.

We’re reliably informed, by Ivy and Brady themselves, that they HAVE won tag bouts in the past (despite what Cagematch says) so apologies to them, we love you guys!

And if Ivy brings her baseball bat to any contest they face then what chance do their opponents have?

Charlie Morgan and Jetta

After Morgan’s amazing return to the ring at WrestleQueendom 4 it’s only natural that these two would be entered in the tournament. Putting a former EVE Champion and the current EVE champion together would put fear in anyone who would come up against them.

The two are going up against each other at Wrestle Carnival in October - a match that caused quite a stir online - but we all know it’s going to be fire!

Mariah May and Danny Duggan

May has been on an absolute tear since lockdown ended and has been getting used to life in a tag team with her Dream Dollz partner Zoe Lucas.

Duggan has his own tag experience with Cieran Donnolly as part of DND and could bring that experience to his real life partnership and see more tag success in the ring.

Gia Adams and Big Guns Joe

Now let’s talk about a real powerhouse couple. In terms of pure strength the pair could easily be the strongest in the tournament.

Of course, strength doesn’t always mean success but in the case of these two it’s hard to look at who in the bracket would have the power to overthrow them.

Just a quick glance on social media will show you how in-sync these two are as a couple. They’ve even gone head to head in the ring - which can only strengthen their bond and trust as a pair.

Both are still relatively new to the business and be coming up against more experienced wrestlers. But chemistry is key and they have bags of it.

Alexxis Falcon and JJ Webb

Falcon is already a mixed tag champ with Damon Leigh but could easily transfer that pairing skill to working with her significant other JJ Webb.

A throwback to the pair’s Guiding Light TV skit is both hilarious and shows how brilliant they work together. Possibly the stand out competitors in this tournament.

Rebecca Reznor and Jake Silver

Jake Silver already has tag team championship experience and defender of Pop Punk, he is really doing great work (especially in the pop punk department).

Reznor is a huge talent in herself and if she’s been able to adapt to the Yorkshire lifestyle then they could make an excellent northern pairing.

International Competitors

As with any tournament, there needs to be an international element to it, but we wanted to keep it to pairings that the BritWres audience know and love.

Veda Scott and Mike Bailey

Bird Law will be an overseas force to be reckoned with. Two of the best international stars in the world who can bring something totally different to the tournament.

As well as bringing some brilliant fun and gags, Bailey is one of the best wrestlers in the world today and Veda is the perfect partner to back him up with her calm and collected wrestling style.

Charli Evans and Everett Connors

Chevs is a name well known to the BritWres scene. One half of Medusa Complex and an absolute badass in her own right.

Over the last few months she and Everett Connors have been the talk of wrestling Twitter with their whirlwind romance. And we can’t wait for the day she inevitably brings him over to the UK - ideally as part of this tournament.
