Four British Indie Matches Of AEW Stars

ALL IN is here! AEW are on the verge of hosting their biggest ever show, the highest selling show of any wrestling company, taking over Wembley Stadium.

There’s a huge buzz around the event, but of course here at Grapple Theory we’re all about independent wrestling. So, in honour of AEW’s visit we’ve taken a look at five incredible matches that current AEW stars have had on the British indie scene.

PAC vs Cara Noir - Riptide Wrestling, Riptide: Point Break, July 5, 2019

The British scene already knew how great Cara Noir was, but this match brought his name to the global stage. PAC had just left WWE, and was just weeks away from joining AEW, when he was revealed as the surprise opponent for Cara at Riptide: Point Break.

The pop when he came out was incredible and the match itself was remarkable. Cara wants a handshake, PAC won’t grant it and then they go hell for leather and beat the crap out of each other.

Words couldn’t do it justice, you just have to see it for yourself!

Toni Storm vs Jinny vs Laura Di Matteo - PROGRESS Wrestling, Chapter 49: Super Strong Style 16, May 28, 2017

Toni is going for gold this weekend at Wembley, looking to reclaim the AEW Women’s Title from Shida. And our pick for her best BritWres match comes at PROGRESS, in another title match.

After two years of hard graft in PROGRESS, Toni finally got her rewards when she was crowned the promotion’s first ever women’s champion.

And this match was an absolute barn-burner! Toni, Jinny and Laura all brought their best to the table and completely blew the crowd away with their chemistry. It was more history in the fact that is was the first PROGRESS women’s main event.

Will Ospreay vs Zack Sabre Jr - Revolution Pro Wrestling, RevPro High Stakes 2020, February 14, 2020

There’s really no words to explain just how incredible this match was! Jericho has quite the task on his hands if he wants to give Will Ospreay his best match on English soil because I don’t know if anything will top this!

Ospreay and ZSJ brought it all and left every last drop of energy in the ring. Their styles meshed beautifully and the crowd at York Hall were left in awe for half an hour straight!

Adam Cole and Roderick Strong vs Sumerian Death Squad (Michael Dante & Tommy End) - PROGRESS Wrestling, Chapter 21: You Know We Don’t Like To Use The Sit Down Gun, September 6, 2016

We’re killing multiple birds with one stone here as Roddy Strong, Adam Cole and Malakai Black (formerly Tommy End) all feature in the same match!

As you’d expect, this bout was fast-paced, edge of the seat stuff with multiple near falls and ‘holy shit’ moments. It’s worth signing up to Proggy’s new on-demand service simply to check this match out!
