Year In Review: The Top BritWres Stars of 2021

THIS YEAR has been absolutely hectic for BritWres.

After a quiet opening to the year, thanks a lot pandemic, the wrestling scene in the UK has burst into life in the second half of 2021.

There have been so many brilliant moments and memories from the past 12 months and tonnes of wrestlers have caught the eye and shone.

To celebrate the end of the year we’re taking a look at the best BritWres stars of the year.

NOTE: we kept this list to ten but to be honest there were so many wrestlers we wanted to name on this list. We love you all and you’re all doing amazing work.

Lizzy Evo

A year of holding three titles and defending them all with aplomb, the Scouse star has had standout matches with the likes of Gisele Shaw, Alexxis Falcon and Myla Grace plus many more.

An incredible few months even saw her get the call from Progress to appear of their WWE Network shows. It may not be long until Evo is on the Network on the main shows of good ol’ World Wrestling Entertainment (or any other major promotion).

The pairing of Luke Jacobs and Ethan Allen stormed out of lockdown and into the limelight in both Progress and Rev Pro - as well as countless other BritWres promotions.

Jacobs has been a star in Progress as a singles and tag team competitor - winning the Natural Progression Series and getting to take on Cara Noir as a reward.

But both have also enjoyed a brilliant feud with Aussie Open in Rev Pro which has seen some beautifully hard-hitting matches.

Warren Banks

As a solo competitor and member of The ‘87, Banks has been a stand out star in BritWres for many years - but post-lockdown he has really been making his mark across the country.

An outstanding wrestler and a loud voice for the advocacy of more BAME representation in wrestling, Banks is fighting the good fight both in and out of the ring.

Alex Windsor

She made her triumphant return with EVE at WrestleQueendom and has gone from strength to strength.

Windsor had been away from the ring for four years but you’d never know it, as a string of epic matches cemented her as one of the best in the business - including a fantastic match with Jordynne Grace at Wrestle Carnival.

She even dethroned Gisele Shaw to win the Rev Pro Women’s Championship.

Mariah May

After entering lockdown with one title to her name, Mariah May returned to wrestling in 2021 with a point to prove.

Not only has she defended that belt but she’s added two more to that tally and is now Mariah Three Beltz!

The Glamour is slowly moving up in the world and she’s done it with a burning desire and some incredible talent.

The Big Dangerous Scary Mammals are slowly making a name for themselves across the country, and ended the year with some incredible ring gear and theme music to go along with their act.

Clementine and Charles Crowley have fantastic acting ability and know exactly how to get the crowd on side, or off it in companies where they portray heels.

Cara Noir

Lockdown has been an interesting time for Cara Noir, the Progress champion has had to defend his title in front of no crowds - we can’t even imagine how tough that must have been.

But he’ll get those crowds back at the next Proggy show, thankfully, and has balanced that out with some staring matches against Rory Coyle in North and Spike Trivet at Resurgence.

Jetta

After years of hard work the Princess Diana of Pro Wrestling finally got her hands on the EVE Championship, dethroning Rhia O’Reilly at WrestleQueendom in an awesome rumble match.

Big things lie ahead for Jetta as she continues to take on all challengers. In fact one of her best matches of the year came against…

Charlie Morgan

Charlie returned to wrestling, having retired prior to lockdown, also at WrestleQueendom. The pop she got was incredible and she proceeded to kick Skye Smitson’s butt.

She’s gone on to have a number of brilliant matches, including the one mentioned above against partner Jetta at Wrestle Carnival.

Joe Hendry

A gimmick change, a new look and some brilliant matches have given the former ‘local hero’ a huge lift in recent months.

Some epic contests, notably in Wrestle Carnival where he has been booked in great fashion, make Joe Hendry one to watch next year too.

Alexxis Falcon

The Iron Queen took 2021 by the scruff of the neck and absolutely made it her own. a whole host of epic matches and a debut on Progress were just the tip of the iceberg.

She rounded off the year by ending her incredible TNT Extreme feud with Lizzy Evo and taking home the TNT title in the process.
