Wrestlers with Surprising Alter Egos
PLENTY OF wrestlers develop their characters over time. In many cases a wrestler won’t perform as their best known gimmick until well into their career.
Some of these former names are great, and you wonder why they didn’t help their performers fly to stardom. But some of the alter egos wrestlers have gone by are simply bonkers.
Here at Grapple Theory we’ve taken a look at some of the finest names in BritWres and found their alter egos that may surprise you.
Cara Noir – FKA Pure Britannico
Tom Dawkins has had many monikers in his decade + of wrestling. For a brief period in the mid-2010s he went by the name Pure Britannico, mainly in the world of British Lucha Libre.
Looking at him now you’d never guess it was the same person!
Chris Brookes/Chuck Mambo – FKA The Love Making Demon
For various different spells in BritWres, both Chris Brookes and Chuck Mambo have gone by the Love Making Demon name.
Brookes is best known for the role and had some cracking matches under the moniker, but Mambo did put on the mask for a brief time too. The pair even teamed up once at Attack!
Charlie Morgan – FKA Lady Penelope
Despite having to retire, Charlie Morgan will be forever loved by the BritWres community. Her no BS attitude and hard-hitting style endeared her to fans, so it’s hard to imagine that from 2013-2017 she went by the name Lady Penelope.
Lion Kid – FKA The British Eagle
Lion Kid clearly has a passion for animals because before he put on the mask of the African big cat he had a brief spell as the British Eagle – which conjures up images of English ski jumper Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards.
Danny Jones – FKA Roger the Cabin Boy
The Welsh wrestler has had a few names in his career but our favourite has the be the utterly ridiculous Roger the Cabin Boy, which he held from 2014 until 2016, a possible tribute to the Captain Pugwash character.
Livvii Grace – FKA Tennessee Honey
Livvii Grace is an absolute badass, she hits hard and leaves her opponents knowing they were in a battle. And her previous name of Tennessee Honey (from 2014-2017) conjures up a far sweeter image, possibly of a Dolly Parton tribute act who has somehow found herself in a wrestling ring.
Mad Kurt – FKA Kurtis Chapman
Who would have thought that the master of Twitter, Mad Kurt, would have also been the ‘Keyboard Warrior’ Kurtis Chapman – utter madness!!
Okay this last one was a little tongue in cheek…
