Pro wrestling EVE ended 2023 with a bang as Wrestle Queendom 6 hit the double header at the Tufnell Park Dome. There was drama, incredible matches and a NEW champion…but more on that later.
Because I’m covering both shows in one review, match round ups will be a bit shorter than normally but I urge you to go check out both shows on the EVE YouTube.
Let’s start with show one;
Skye Smitson vs Su Yung
The task of kicking off the sixth Wrestle Queendom fell to Skye and Su. It was great to see Su Yung back in EVE and Skye’s mission was to make sure she gyrated her hips in front of the undead bride.
Su was eager to avoid such a fate, but eventually succumbed midway through the match. She’d get her revenge though, by beating Skye in brutal fashion. Although Smitson did get a cheeky kiss in there before leaving the ring.
Lizzy Evo vs Alex Windsor
This match was due to be Alex vs Kasey Owens but due to Kasey being hurt and wanting to work the evening show against Su Yung she say this one out.
Lizzy got a huge pop as her music played, with fans delighted to see the Liverbird back in EVE.
And she and Alex went to war in this match up! Both had a point to prove and Alex had revenge on her mind after Lizzy pinned her earlier this year.
They went hell for leather with stiff strikes and painful kicks as well as some brutal work outside the ring.
Alex won but my words really won’t do it justice, do yourself a favour and watch this match because it was a barn burner. My favourite across both shows if I’m honest.
Millie McKenzie vs Emersyn Jayne
And speaking of barn burner, the next match had no limit and was dubbed ‘fight to the finish’.
And fight these two did! It was an incredible back and forth contest, chairs were used, blood was spilled on both sides as Millie and Emersyn kicked each other’s arses all over the Dome.
Millie won, much to the delight of the crowd, but the winner is irrelevant - at least in the sense that both of these women shone and proved why they’re two of the best in the country!
Miyu Yamashita vs Chantal Jordan
Before defending her EVE title later in the night, Miyu was first tasked with facing Chantal in a non-title match.
As you’d expect from two wrestlers best known for their striking abilities, this was hard hitting.
Kicks aplenty were thrown as the pair essentially had a contest to see whose kick could connect with enough force that it won the battle of audience reaction - I still have no idea who won.
But crucially it was Miyu who won the match with a mega skull kick to Chantal. A nice warm up for her big match with Safire Reed on show two.
Safire Reed vs Nina Samuels
And speaking of Safire….she had her own double duty to pull. Because before challenging for the title she had a score to settle with long time rival Nina Samuels.
Safire was not messing about here, attacking Nina before the bell even rang as the pair brawled around the outside. Once in the ring Safire didn’t let up, but Nina’s experience helped her gain the advantage as the match went on.
However Safire would be left unsatisfied in her quest to vanquish Nina as, during a scuffle, Nina used Safire’s foot to boot Ref Oscar square in the privates.
Oscar fell to the floor but crucially didn’t see Nina move Safire’s leg. This led him to DQing Safire as Nina ran to the back, content with her sneaky victory.
Yuu vs Rhio - EVE International Title
And so for your show one main event. The winner would face Rhia O’Reilly on show two with the title on the line.
After the matches that proceeded it this one had a lot to live up to and it really did! A really hard hitting contest that went back and forth as both wrestlers gave their all for the belt.
There were multiple moments that Rhio looked to have the belt one, but Yuu was determined to not be defeated.
It was the champ who would eventually win and retain the belt she’s held for an entire year and a record nine consecutive defences. Would she make it ten against Rhia?
Show 2
Rhio vs Emersyn Jayne vs Alexxis Falcon
We kick off show two with triple threat action. Alexxis was in her first match of the day, while Rhio and Emersyn were looking to get a win on the board after both losing on show one.
Another hard hitting contest ensued, Alexxis was adamant she’d be winning but found herself on the wrong end of a lot of brutal hits.
I should mention Alexxis was nearly in tears when she saw Rhio come to the ring, she was so scared and rightly so!
It was Rhio who, after a gruelling battle, took the win by pinning Alexxis - with Emersyn just too late to make the save.
Aleah James & Kanji vs The Royal Aces (Jetta & Charlie Morgan) vs The Uprising (Nightshade & Skye Smitson) vs Nina Samuels & Chantal Jordan - four way elimination match, EVE tag team titles
Nina and Chantal emerged confident for this match, seemingly believing that breezing past three other tag teams would be easy. But it was anything but that.
The match started off in usual four way fashion, everyone got a turn in the ring and the tone was set nicely.
It was Kanji and Aleah who were eliminated first by Chantal Jordan. Who after shining against Miyu looked brilliant in this too.
However the champs didn’t count on one thing….Safire Reed! She came out soon after and distracted Nina. And while Nina was distracted Chantal was pinned. The pair had lost the titles and we would have new champs.
Would it be the Royal Aces or The Uprising?
Well it looked to be The Uprising, until the ref went down and in the chaos Alex Windsor came to the ring and offered her support to Charlie and Jetta. While Alex checked on Charlie, Jetta fetched the tag belts and looked ready to use them.
But Skye, who was the legal competitor at the time, saved her Uprising partner, pushing her out the way and taking the belt full on in the face herself.
Meanwhile Charlie turned her back on Alex, super kicking her, before pinning Skye to win the belts for the Aces
A chaotic end to a very long match but there’s plenty of story moving forward between the Aces and Alex Windsor.
Kasey Owens vs Su Yung
Kasey looked to be limping a little as she walking into the ring to take on Su - but it was great to see her in action.
Now this match was originally intended to have a stipulation, I believe ‘Monster’s Ball’ was the name, but this was changed to a straight singles match. Whether this was because of Kasey’s injury I’m not sure so won’t comment.
On paper this is one of the matches I was looking forward to most, two of the most intimidating stars in wrestling going at it. When it came to it however I felt a little flat.
I think it’s because I couldn’t fully get into it knowing Kasey was hurt. I’m a huge fan of the Mother of Chaos and think she deserves a mega push so it’s tough to see her hurt and working through pain.
This wasn’t a bad match by any means, and it is always a treat seeing both these women in action. But hopefully it can happen again later down the line with a fully fit Kasey.
Su won the match by essentially choking Kasey out and as Kasey lay there prone and Su departed, the Mother of Chaos was cheered to the back which was lovely to see.
Yuu vs Rhia O’Reilly - EVE International Title
It was her second title defence of the night but you wouldn’t know it, she came out happy and bouncing and raring to go.
Meanwhile Rhia has put out a promo earlier in the week talking about how badly she wanted the belt. If she won she’d become only the second ever Triple Crown winner in EVE (behind Emersyn Jayne).
As the pair traded hits and counters back and forth it was clear how much this match meant to both of them.
Rhia has been a stalwart of EVE and the get the triple crown would be special for her.
But unfortunately it wasn’t to be and Yuu retained once again before the pair hugged it out in the ring.
Miyu Yamashita vs Safire Reed - EVE championship
Now for the big one, the main event, the culmination of a year long title reign for Miyu Yamashita in which she’s remained undefeated in all matches.
She was up against the She-1 winner, the new Ace of EVE, Safire Reed.
This match was brilliant, both technically and emotionally. Safire was far more aggressive than we’ve seen her in the past and even Miyu let out a little more aggression of her own in order to counteract it.
Of course Nina Samuels had to get involved; with ref Oscar down Nina attacked Safire then urged Miyu to go for the pin.
Unfortunately for Nina she didn’t take into account that Miyu has far more honour than that. She gave Nina a swift skull kick and the match continued.
Miyu and Safire went back and forth, a battle of experience against the determination of the underdog.
With the match reaching its climax the crowd were firmly behind the woman from south east London, who was wowed us all with her rise in the britwres sphere.
And the blew the roof off the Dome when she countered Miyu into a roll up pin of sorts for the three count.
The crowd are stunned and delighted, Safire Reed has beaten the unbeatable Miyu Yamashita and WON the EVE title. She’ll go into 2024 as the champion.
After the match Miyu showed her class as she put the belt on Safire and gave her a hug. A beautiful moment.
Miyu deserves huge praise for being an incredible EVE champion, one of the best in the company’s history. Thank you Miyu!
And as for Safire, man does she deserve this! She’s worked so hard, given so much and proved her worth time after time. I can’t wait to see what this EVE title reign has in store for her.
First up, a defence against Nina Samuels at the EVE multiverse rumble in January.
