REVIEW: PRO WRESTLING EVE, Multiverse Rumble

Pro Wrestling: EVE - Multiverse Rumble

Big Penny Social, London

There was a sense of anticipation surrounding the build up to this show - and for good reason.

For the first time since 2020, Jamie Hayter was going to step through the curtain and into a Pro Wrestling: EVE ring.

Hype surrounding this match was clear to see, with EVE getting far more mainstream wrestling media attention than their other shows (which is somewhat unfair given the quality of those shows). That media hype clearly paid dividends as more than 500 people packed into the Big Penny Social - EVE’s biggest attendance since their move to the Walthamstow venue.

From the moment Hayter’s music hits the crowd is frankly unglued, absolutely buzzing off the walls and right up for it.

Her and Alex Windsor put on an absolute clinic for nearly half an hour in what will undoubtedly be a match of the year contender.

But this night wasn’t just about the main event, it was also Multiverse Rumble. A night famed for chaos and unpredictability. So let’s start from the beginning.

The amazing Loose Willis opens the show as our MC for proceedings and they are a delight. I’ve seen Loose a lot at Fist Club - which is a show that everyone should be checking out - and they are hilarious every time.

Hard Up North (Harley Hudson & Lucy Sky) vs Lu-Wave (Lucia Lee and Aluna)

The first match of the night is tag team action, as the newly crowned champs, Harley Hudson and Lucy Sky, take on last months debuting Lu-Wave.

The crowd is hot for the off, as are Lu-Wave…Hot To Go that is as they come out to Chappell Roan’s absolute bop of an anthem.

Meanwhile Hudson and Sky aren’t greeted as warmly as jeers and insults about their native Liverpool and Wigan, respectively, have them absolutely seething.

And as part of the crowd that was casting those insults I should apologise to Lucia and Aluna as this made Hard Up North mad as hell and they showed it in the ring, being particularly vicious.

I’ve said it my last few reviews but Lucy Sky has found a new edge at EVE and is on an absolute tear at the moment. Pairing her with Harley has given both a new purpose here and they seem to be thriving.

Meanwhile Lucia and Aluna are relishing every moment of being in the EVE ring and don’t back down from the challenge for even a second. Lucia in particular looks like she has a point to prove as she squares up to Lucy on numerous occasions.

This is a really solid opener that really gets the crowd going. Sky and Harley look to have the win in the bag, but just as Lucy is about to jump off the top rope and finish Lucia, Aluna steps in and grabs her leg. Lucia uses the distraction as a chance to roll up Hudson, and with Sky stuck on the top rope Lu-Wave pick up a shock win.

Yes, this was a non-title match. But by pinning the champs you’d think Lee and Aluna have earned themselves a shot at the titles somewhere down the line.

Skye Smitson vs Abi Cartwright

Now this match needs some context as it wasn’t advertised.

First off Nina Samuels came to the ring, in preparation for her International Championship defence against Myla Grace.

But Skye Smitson soon interrupted proceedings, calling Nina a “piece of shit” and demanding the title match she’s owed.

Nina says Skye can have a match…but not against her, against Abu Cartwright, who for the last few shows has served as Nina’s right hand woman to hold all her belts.

For a moment it doesn’t look like the match will happen, but then Abi decides to slap Skye. In the words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, ‘big mistake, huge’.

Skye tears into Abi, giving her an absolute beatdown. In all honestly I don’t even remember the bell ringing but I know that after just a few seconds Skye emerged victorious.

However she’s still fuming at Nina and attacks her before the pair are separated by EVE crew. Dann Read gets involved and bars Skye from the venue for the rest of the night.

After getting attacked by Skye, Nina now needs to pick herself up and take on Myla Grace. A tall order as Myla has recently returned from a long spell in Japan and has majorly improved in the ring thanks to her time out there.

This is another really strong match. Nina rarely has bad matches and against an opponent as quality as Myla this was always going to be strong.

It’s hard hitting and for a while Myla seems to have the upper hand. It’s not often you see Nina really up against it, her M.O. is to dominate from the off but Grace just doesn’t give her that opportunity.

There’s more than one occasion where Nina is locked in submission holds and very much struggling to free herself - with only the ropes coming to her rescue.

But champs find a way and Nina is no different; expect unlike previous title defences this win actually comes with relatively few shenanigans. Just some brutal strikes and kicks that leave Myla prone for the pinning.

It’s a solid first International title defence for Nina - but her evening wouldn’t be done there.

Safire Reed vs Emersyn Jayne

To close out the first half we have the young upstart Safire and the Top Shagger Emersyn Jayne.

On a show that was dominated by the top headline matches coming in the second half these two came out with a point to prove - and boy did they do that!

They went hell for leather and kicked the living crap out of each other for around 15 minutes. More than proving why they are two of the best wrestlers in the country at the moment.

Both of these wrestlers have a point to prove as well, with Saf trying to work her way back to the top of the division since losing the belt and with Emersyn killing it at the moment in her tag team with Kanji but keen to cement herself as a top singles star too.

All the focus may have been on Hayter’s return but these two had a dark horse match of the night contender. It was absolutely fantastic!

Safire picked up an important win and she looks to establish herself as a top contender at EVE.

Multiverse Rumble

After the break it was time for the show’s namesake event, and a jewel in EVE’s crown in recent years.

Now in its third iteration, the Multiverse Rumble has been a highlight of the year since its inception.

It’s strictly non-canon and absolutely bonkers, as your favourite EVE stars take to the ring in guises you’ve never seen before.

Now I’m not going to go through every elimination as that will take a while but a brief overview is this…

Amira entered first as a ref, declaring herself in the rumble but then rolling out and acting as an official on the side.

Then the rumble peaks early! John Cena’s music hits and for the third time in a row Safire enters as another iteration of the 16 time world champ - complete with the new Cena bald spot.

To kick off she takes on the second (or is it third, more on that later) entrant…TRIPLE H! Anita Vaughan takes to the ring as The Game, the man in charge of WWE. She nails the spit take and the pair go at it to kick us off.

The rest of the entrants were as follows:

Lucy Sky sneaking in as Where’s Wally
Abi Cartwright as the Blue Power Ranger
Harley Hudson as Vicky Pollard
Aluna as Brendan White
Lucia Lee as Flash Morgan Webster
Rayne Leverkusen as Shane McMahon
Lauren the referee as Aubrey Edwards (and fair play to Lauren she took a great bump over the top rope to the outside)
Kasey as the Greatest Showman
Nina Samuels as Right to Censor

Then came out final entrant - a huge wild card.

We all know the beef between Will Ospreay and Triple H. Well, Ospreay has been helping produce EVE shows in recent months, and seeing The Game in the ring was clearly too much for him.

He snuck up behind Hunter and delivered a sick pedigree to Triple H. But then as he basks in his own glory he’s tossed over the top rope by Rayne O’Mac!

Rayne does the signature shuffle dance before being eliminated and shuffling to the back themselves.

In the end, after all the chaos, it’s Greatest Showman Kasey who is the only one left standing. That’s until Amira the referee slides back in the ring and throws Kasey over the top rope. But, unbeknownst to Amira, Kasey holds on!

As Amira celebrates, thinking she’s won, Kasey eliminates her to stand tall.

The Multiverse Rumble is ALWAYS fun, always funny and always worth coming to - along with the She-1 and WrestleQueendom it’s one of the three EVE shows I’d say are MUSTS is you can only go to a handful of shows a year.

Alex Windsor vs Jamie Hayter

After the chaos it’s time for the MAIN EVENT!

To say people were hyped for this would be an understatement. The reception for Windsor is great but when Hayter’s music hits it’s a different level entirely.

She is welcomed back home as a hero and the roof is blown off the Big Penny.

As I mentioned at the start this match was just special, a match of the year contender that was years in the making.

I’m not going to go into it in too much detail but go to EVE’s YouTube and watch it, it’ll be worth it, trust me.

Although Hayter wins the outcome is largely irrelevant. Both women emerge from it looking a million dollars and have delivered something remarkable that will live long in the memory.

After the match Alex is attacked by Nina, then Skye comes out - having been kicked out the building earlier - and beats up Nina.

She then picks up the EVE title and goes to hit Windsor but the exhausted fighter ducks it and kicks Skye square in the face as both fall to the floor.

It’s at this point that Dann Read announces that this feuding between the trio will end!

Next month it will be triple threat action (you know a feud has gone too far when Dann books a three way) with BOTH titles on the line - one pinfall for each title.

Once again EVE delivers with entertainment and pure hilarity as well as some amazing wrestling.

Since moving to Big Penny it feels like EVE has been reborn and are really getting back into their stride. Let’s hope all the people that Hayter brought in make EVE their regular spot for wrestling.
