Indie Wrestling Stables as Bands
Bands and wrestlers, especially wrestling stables, have plenty in common. Music and look are of course key to both and really help fans back or identify with them.
With that in mind, this week I’ve decided to take a look at some of the best wrestling stables on the indies and compare them to famous bands.
Let me know what you think or if there are any stables or bands I missed out…
BDK (Lucia Lee, MJ Grayson, Wesker, Bevan & Bishop) - The Pretty Reckless
Hard-hitting, heavy and both groups that have solid followings but are surely destined for bigger things. Like TPR’s music and look, BDK have a menacing look about them that translates well to metal music.
North West Strong (Chris Ridgeway, Luke Jacobs, Ethan Allen, Scott Oberman, Joe Kessler, Rhio, Keinen Krishna) - Joy Division
Okay, so the Liverpool contingent of the group may not like being compared to a Manchester band, but there’s no denying the impact have had/are having on their respective scenes. NWS are becoming a force in the ring, like Division are a force in British rock music.
Lykos Gym (Kid Lykos, Kid Lykos II, Nico Angelo) - Sleep Token
I’m comparing one of Britain’s fastest rising rock acts to the tag team that are arguably already at the top of their game in terms of BritWres stables. The recent addition of Nico Angelo is giving Lykos Gym even more muscle. Oh and most members of the stable and band wear masks.
The Uprising (Rhia O’Reilly, Skye Smitson, Nightshade, Livvii Grace) - The Runaways
Two groups of women who are absolutely tough as nails and shaped their respective arenas. The Runaways chased the landscape of punk rock in America in the 70s, while The Uprising are dominating the British Wrestling scene at EVE and beyond.
Close Personal Friends (Joe Lando, Danny Black, Maverick Mayhew, Callum Newman) - Motley Crue
There may not be a music/wrestling comparison in this, but I went for it because it seems like a group - in both respects - of just four best friends having an amazing time and all offering something a little different while working towards the same end goal!
Crashboat (Jake Silver, Jack Bandicoot + Rebecca Reznor) - The Wonder Years
Okay, so Rebecca isn’t officially a member of Crashboat but as a trio these guys can always be found together. Of course we had to compare them to pop-punk icons The Wonder Years. Both are groups who, in my mind, I can’t believe aren’t bigger than they are because they’re all phenomenal!
Sanitarium (Jayde, Nightshade) - Creeper
Dark, dangerous and supremely cool. Am I describing Creeper or the Sanitarium? Well that’s the thing, I could be describing either. Both have a brilliant presentation and are so much fun to watch.
Destination Everywhere (Connor Mills, OJMO, Oisin Delaney, Charlie Carter) - The Clash
The anti-establishment side of The Clash can best be seen in Destination Everywhere in their current run in Purpose Wrestling. They are here to create chaos and disrupt the natural order of things and they do it beautifully.
BDSM (Charles Crowley and Clementine) - Right Said Fred
Okay, neither member of BDSM are bald or look anything like the members of Right Said Fred, but can’t you just imagine Crowley and Clementine doing the most amazing cover of ‘I’m Too Sexy’
